Child Neurology Residency Program
Training the Next Generation of Pediatric Neurologists
Develop expertise in diverse pediatric neurology care—and prepare for a future of excellence.
Program Overview
The U-M Medical School Department of Pediatrics and Department of Neurology have an integrated five-year training program in Pediatrics and Child Neurology. We offer four categorical positions each year.
For the categorical five-year program, the curriculum includes two years of Pediatrics and subsequently three years of Neurology, which is a blend of one year of Adult Neurology and two years of Child Neurology.
Program Aims
- Train pediatric neurologists to achieve excellence in diverse patient-centered practice
- Provide opportunities and mentorship to develop excellence centered on individual resident interests and career goals with respect to research, medical education, and advocacy
- Provide opportunities and mentorship in a broad range of clinical and educational experiences, so that trainees can make informed fellowship and career decisions and transition smoothly to their subsequent positions
- Graduate skilled, conscientious pediatric neurologists who practice evidence and value-based medicine with ongoing self-directed learning, analyze their own practices for quality improvement, and work to improve patient safety
- Provide an inclusive work environment that promotes personal growth, and provides resources to maintain physician wellness and self-care
How to Apply
Applications are all through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). We offer four positions each year for our five-year categorical program.
Our Child Neurology program participates in the NRMP Main Residency Match and in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applicants must register with both NRMP and ERAS to participate in the services of each.
Applicants need to submit only one application for the categorical program (note that a separate application to the Pediatrics residency is not needed):
- Categorical program code: 1293185C0
