Division of General Pediatrics
High-quality, patient-centered care to children and young adults.
The U-M Medical School Department of Pediatrics Division of General Pediatrics is comprised of 60+ clinical faculty delivering patient care in nine ambulatory care sites in Southeastern Michigan. Under the direction of Jill Noble, we are actively engaged in fulfilling our mission of excellence in patient care, education and research. The division offers patient-centered, AAP evidence-based care to children and young adults while addressing both the preventive and acute care needs of our growing patient population. We manage over 100,000 patient visits annually and offer same-day appointments with evening and weekend hours at all our locations. All Michigan Medicine pediatricians are decidedly pro-vaccine.
Our faculty are invested in the ongoing growth and success our our department, the health system as a whole and the communities in which they practice. They are leaders on many committees and volunteer to precept popular learning experiences, including global health, migrant farmworker health outreach, hemophilia camp and advocacy trips to the state legislature in Lansing.
Clinical Care
The division offers patient-centered, AAP evidence-based care to children and young adults while addressing both the preventive and acute care needs of our growing patient population. We manage over 100,000 patient visits annually and offer same-day appointments with evening and weekend hours at all our locations.
In addition to serving our primary care patients, we co-manage the newborn nursery at C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital with our hospitalist colleagues. Our clinics are all NCQA certified medical homes. We are actively engaged in patient safety and quality improvement projects. Our clinic system serves as the primary continuity clinic sites for the general pediatrics training program at C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital and also as the outpatient pediatric clerkship sites for University of Michigan medical students.
Special services that our primary care sites offer:
- Social Work
- Registered Dietitian
- Laboratory and Radiology
- Lactation support
- Integrated behavioral health – pediatric psychologists embedded in the primary care setting serving patients in their medical home and also offering training to post-doc Ph.Ds in psychology
- Pediatric psychiatry consultation services

Education
We take very seriously our role in training the next generation of pediatricians. Under the leadership of our Associate Directors for Education, we strive to develop innovative and exciting methods of clinical instruction and evaluation. We aim to ensure that medical students and residents in our program receive the tools and information they will need to succeed in the new health care marketplace.
Our faculty educators have a dynamic, case-based curriculum for our continuity clinics, as well as comprehensive training in community-based healthcare delivery, global health and health policy.
Research
The Susan B. Meister Child Health Evaluation and Research Center (CHEAR) at the University of Michigan Medical School is a multidisciplinary health services research unit, based in the Division of General Pediatrics that brings together faculty from multiple pediatric subspecialty disciplines, other departments from the school of medicine and multiple schools and institutes across the University of Michigan. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the CHEAR unit addresses high-impact research questions in child health.
The mission of the CHEAR Center is to conduct high-quality, rigorous, timely health services research with the potential for real impact on children’s health. Primary research areas include health services research; child and family health policy; public opinion and health communication; health outcomes and quality of care; comparative effectiveness and economic evaluation; and program evaluation.
