The Medical School Dean’s Office is proud to lead several groundbreaking initiatives that highlight our commitment to research excellence, diversity in academic medicine, sustainability and innovation in technology.

These focus areas demonstrate our dedication to advancing health care, supporting our faculty and learners, and fostering an inclusive and sustainable future.

Each year, we host the "Great Minds, Greater Discoveries" Dean’s Lecture, a signature event that underscores the University of Michigan’s global leadership in medical research. This lecture brings together thought leaders from across the medical field to explore new discoveries and ideas that shape the future of health care.
The event features a keynote speaker, faculty presentations, poster sessions, and engaging panel discussions, offering our community the opportunity to share cutting-edge research.

The University of Michigan Medical School is committed to supporting the professional growth and advancement of women in academic medicine and science. Under the leadership of Lori L. Isom, PhD, inaugural faculty chair for women’s careers, we are creating new opportunities to help women thrive in their careers. Our goal is to address systemic challenges while providing mentorship and leadership opportunities for the next generation of women leaders in academic medicine and science.
The annual Celebration of Women in Academic Medicine and Science recognizes the invaluable contributions of women faculty at Michigan Medicine and celebrates the women who are transforming the fields of health care, science, and education. The event includes presentation of the Karin Muraszko, MD, Advancing Women in Academic Medicine and Science Award.

The rapidly evolving world of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is transforming how we approach education, research, and patient care at Michigan Medicine. The University of Michigan Medical School Generative AI Task Force is exploring innovative ways to integrate AI tools like U-M GPT and U-M Maizey into medical education and clinical practice, positioning our learners and faculty to meet the challenges of tomorrow’s health care landscape.
By focusing on four key areas — research, education, administrative systems, and IT infrastructure — this task force is developing guidelines and principles to ensure AI is used responsibly and effectively in our academic and clinical settings.

At the University of Michigan Medical School, we recognize the critical importance of environmental sustainability in health care. Our Carbon Neutrality and Sustainability Council (CNSC) leads efforts to incorporate sustainable practices into our operations and curriculum, ensuring that we not only meet the university’s carbon neutrality goals but also promote a culture of environmental stewardship.
Partnering with groups like the U-M Office of Campus Sustainability, Planet Blue and White Coats for Planetary Health, we are fostering a community-wide commitment to sustainability. From reducing our carbon footprint to supporting research and education that advances sustainable health care practices, the CNSC is focused on four strategic pillars: community engagement, education, campus operations, and research.
