Pediatrics Medical Student Programs
All second-year University of Michigan Medical School students (M2s) participate in clinical rotations, including a six-week Pediatrics rotation.
During this time, students gain the skills, knowledge and compassionate attitudes necessary to safely care for children and their families. They will actively engage in both chronic and acute pediatric patient care.

Training Future Leaders in Pediatrics
Medical student education is a top priority for the Department of Pediatrics. Our clinical rotation provides a variety of educational opportunities in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Students develop knowledge of growth, development, and common pediatric diseases, along with hands-on skills in pediatric patient care.
During your senior electives, you can further enhance your knowledge and skills through specialty electives and sub-internships.
Medical Student Rotations
We always look forward to having students rotate with us across our pediatric subspecialties. During their M3 and M4 years (The Branches), U-M medical students can request to spend time with teams in areas such as Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, and Neurology. These experiences may include time on inpatient consult services, outpatient clinics, or a combination, depending on availability and student interests. They can also spend a month as a sub-intern on the General Inpatient, Heme-Onc Inpatient, Cardiology Inpatient, PICU, and NICU teams.
U-M medical students can also participate in the Crosby Apprenticeship, through the Neurology department, which is a longitudinal elective focused on development as an educator.
We are thrilled to offer four-week elective rotations for visiting students, which are also customized based on learning goals. If you’re interested in completing an elective rotation, please see the Visiting Students webpage and contact Nani Hunter.
