Compassionate, cutting-edge care for children with blood disorders and cancer.
Welcome to the U-M Medical School Department of Pediatrics Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant. Our multidisciplinary team—including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, fellows, clinical pharmacists, child life specialists, social workers and dietitians—works collaboratively to deliver state-of-the-art, personalized, and family-centered care for children and young adults with blood disorders and cancer.
Clinical Care
Our experienced physicians deliver the most advanced therapies to patients at every stage—from those newly diagnosed to those seeking innovative options for rare, relapsed, or recurrent cancers. We offer specialized clinics in pediatric oncology, bone marrow transplantation, neuro-oncology, hemophilia and coagulation disorders, sickle cell disease and comprehensive long-term follow-up care for childhood cancer survivors.
Our Blood & Marrow Transplantation program is the largest in Michigan, providing extensive expertise and resources. As part of C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and U-M Health, we have seamless access to a broad network of pediatric and subspecialty experts, ensuring that every patient benefits from truly comprehensive, multidisciplinary care.
Nationally Ranked for Pediatric Cancer Care
C.S. Mott Children's Hospital has been recognized as one of the nation's best for pediatric cancer care by U.S. News & World Report for 2025-2026.
Education
We are deeply committed to training the next generation of leaders in pediatric hematology and oncology.
- Our prestigious, NIH-funded Hematology Training Grant (T32)—awarded to only a select number of programs nationwide—empowers us to mentor future trailblazers in malignant and benign blood disorders. Graduates of our program have gone on to hold leadership roles across the country, establishing cutting-edge clinical and research programs at Michigan Medicine and other top institutions and pushing the boundaries of pediatric hematology-oncology.
Explore our T-32 Boxer Training Program - Our three-year Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Fellowship is designed for people committed to academic careers in hematology, oncology, blood and marrow transplant, or cellular therapy. Fellows will train at an academic medical center with over 100 new pediatric oncology diagnoses annually and more than 600 inpatient admissions each year, with approximately 50 stem cell transplants and cellular therapies per year.

Research
Our Division leads innovative basic and clinical research that is advancing novel therapies for cancer and blood disorders, improving survival rates and quality of life for our patients. Our faculty includes accomplished basic scientists and clinical investigators who collaborate both within and beyond our department. Highlights of our research efforts include:
- Uncovering the biology of Ewing’s sarcoma and diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG)
- Investigating the genetic basis of tumor resistance and varied tumor genetic profiles in minority children
- Exploring the pathogenesis of leukemia and neuroblastoma
- Developing immune therapies for leukemias, lymphomas and solid tumors
We are also nationally recognized for fundamental discoveries, such as identifying the genetic causes of bleeding disorders, pioneering gene therapy for hemophilia and unraveling the mechanisms of globin switching.
Our clinical research faculty has established national and international protocols for treating refractory neuroblastoma, graft-versus-host disease and utilizing adaptive cellular therapy through stem cell transplantation for leukemias and lymphomas.
