Helping women advance, thrive in their careers
Michigan Medicine is committed to the advancement — and overall thriving — of women pursuing careers in academic medicine and science.
The U-M Medical School has more than 2,000 women faculty, including 500-plus senior women faculty. In addition, thousands more women are serving academic medicine and science in their roles throughout Michigan Medicine.
Our leadership team includes a faculty chair for women’s careers working with colleagues serving in chair-elect and post-chair roles, as well as a steering committee. We collaborate with teams across the Medical School, including the Offices of Faculty Affairs, Health Equity and Inclusion, and Well-being and education deans, to address systemic issues that impact women faculty and learners.
The Medical School hosts an annual Celebration of Women in Academic Medicine and Science to honor all women faculty who play such a vital role in Michigan Medicine’s success, while making contributions to science, medicine and health.

The Karin Muraszko, MD, Advancing Women in Academic Medicine and Science Award honors individuals who have demonstrated impact in advancing women as a mentor, sponsor, advocate or role model for women. Award winners have also contributed to academic medicine or science and have made a significant systemic impact on advancing women’s careers in academic medicine or science.
A wall display in Medical Science Building I honoring previous Muraszko Award recipients, is located on the fourth floor near the elevator bank commonly used to access to the Dean’s Office on floors 6-7.
