U-M PRIME Program Details

U-M PRIME accepts up to eight scholars each year, with the program beginning on September 1 for the 2026-2027 academic year. During the first month, U-M PRIME leadership will work closely with our scholars to identify and match them with a faculty mentor whose laboratory conducts research aligned with their interests and whose mentorship style fits the needs of our trainees.

Each PRIME cohort includes five cancer-focused research trainees, one neuroscience-focused trainee, one trainee aspiring to pursue an MD/PhD, and one trainee focused on biomedical-related research.

More than 500 U-M faculty members from across campus are available to mentor U-M PRIME scholars for their research training (Include PIBS faculty database and Michigan Experts Database links)

In the 2026-27 year U-M PRIME scholars will receive an annual stipend of $35,000 (allocated monthly), a one-time relocation allowance of $2,000, health benefits, and dental insurance.
