About Our Residencies
The first U.S. medical school to establish a hospital, our tradition of excellence in academic medicine continues, with University of Michigan Health ranking among the nation’s best hospitals in more specialties than any other Michigan hospital, according to U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals Rankings.
Michigan Medicine’s 27 ACGME and 3 CODA residency programs are also considered among the best in the United States as reported in the Doximity Residency Navigator, which compiles current resident and recent alumni satisfaction rates, as well as reputation data and objective data:

RESEARCH FUNDING & COLLABORATION
With top levels of NIH funding and integrated resources and facilities, you can choose to make research an integral part of your training experience. Opportunities range from clinical and policy research to basic and translational research, including dedicated support for physician scientist trainees.
Collaboration is inherent in our university mission, with many other professional schools – dentistry, engineering, public health, nursing, pharmacy, business and law – practically at our doorstep – and talented future colleagues from across disciplines excited to engage and innovate.
Health Equity, Leadership and Well-being
Our residents have numerous opportunities to work and learn in a rich, inclusive environment that values your contributions and helps you achieve your goals. Here are a few examples of our novel programming:
Train to improve care delivery, reduce disparities and advance public health. Join the Healthcare Disparities Journal Club or embark on our ten-month Healthcare Equity and Quality Scholars certificate program.
Develop as a leader with the Chief Resident Leadership Collaborative and other leadership development programs
Inspire others as teachers and mentors through our Residents as Educators resources, part of new house officer orientation
Excite and motivate future physicians with creative outreach activities. Lead hands-on simulation events at national medical education conferences and for local middle schools at our annual Youth Summit at the Big House.
Improve well-being with access to wellness resources. Advance well-being research and scholarship through an annual well-being symposium.
Fostering patient safety and quality improvement through an equity lens
