- Unique Training Ground: Training at one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals, renowned for cutting-edge care and a national reputation in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
- Diverse Clinical Exposure: Primary training in our 38-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), serving a wide range of patients from medicine, surgery, transplantation, trauma, neurosurgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology, and more. Additional rotations in the 30-bed Pediatric Cardiothoracic Unit (PCTU), offering advanced care for cardiovascular diseases across all ages.
- Research & Scholarship: Intensive mentorship in clinical, translational, basic science, health services, quality improvement, and educational research. Fellows complete scholarly projects and are encouraged and supported to present at national conferences.
- Career Advancement: Access additional training programs based on your interests. Our fellows have participated in the CHEAR Health Services Research Fellowship, the CoMET Medical Education program, the Health Equity Scholars Program, as well as taken courses and workshops through the School of Public Health and the Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR). Our graduates have successfully secured NIH K and R-level funding, reflecting the strength of mentorship and research opportunities here.
- Educational Partners: Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are integral members of our Pediatric Critical Care team, collaborating closely with fellows throughout their training. Their advanced clinical expertise and continual presence in the unit provide invaluable guidance, support, and continuity of care for our most complex patients. Fellows benefit greatly from hands-on learning alongside APPs, enriching their educational experience and multidisciplinary teamwork.
