Division of Adolescent Medicine

Delivering specialized youth care, training and research excellence.

Established in 2014, the U-M Medical School Department of Pediatrics Division of Adolescent Medicine is dedicated to providing specialized care tailored to the unique needs of adolescents. Our team comprises highly trained faculty, advanced practice providers, and nurses experienced in addressing various adolescent health concerns, including eating disorders, depression, anxiety, ADHD, menstrual issues, sports medicine and complex chronic illnesses.

Honoring the Lasting Legacy of David S. Rosen, MD, MPH: From 1990 until 2013, the name David S. Rosen, M.D., M.P.H. was synonymous with the words “adolescent medicine” at Michigan Medicine. Accounts from patients, family members, colleagues, and friends are unanimous in underscoring Rosen’s extraordinary dedication.

Dr. Rosen was instrumental in founding the Division of Adolescent Medicine and developing the university’s eating disorders treatment program.

Clinical Care

In addition to our full-service adolescent health clinic, we participate in a number of multidisciplinary programs at U-M, including the Comprehensive Eating Disorders Program and Gender Services Program.

We also provide medical management consultation alongside other pediatric specialists for adolescents with complex conditions who are currently hospitalized at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and see patients at a number of area schools through the Regional Alliance for Healthy Schools initiative.

Research

Members of the division participate in a variety of research endeavors, including work involving outcome predictors for recovery from anorexia nervosa, national collaborative quality improvement efforts related to the treatment of eating disorders in adolescents and the promotion of patient-centered communication in primary care for adolescents.
