Apply for Pediatric Residency
All of the positions for the U-M Medical School Department of Pediatrics Residency program are filled through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) Match.
Applicants must apply through the ERAS System.
Applications for the 2026 – 2027 academic year will be accepted from September 3, 2025 until November 29, 2025.

Application Requirements
- All applicants must have taken and passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step I or COMLEX level 1.
- We require that you have taken and passed Step II CK or COMLEX level 2 before the rank list is submitted.
- All applicants must have competed at least one year of clinical training in a LCME, CACMS, or ACGME approved program. This year must include hands-on patient care, for which the student/resident has taken an active role demonstrating responsibility for patient care and outcome.
- To be considered, an applicant must be a US citizen, be eligible for a J-1 visa sponsored by the ECFMG, have a VALID Permanent Resident (Green Card) status, be actively pursuing a Green Card which has an EAD card that the U-M International Center has reviewed and determined the probability that the EAD will remain valid or can be extended for the duration of the training program, or have an EAD card associated with the granting of deferred action under DACA.
- Applicants should have graduated from medical school no more than 5 years prior to application.
- Applications must include an MSPE and three letters of recommendation, at least two of which must address clinical skills and be written by clinical supervisors. The third letter can either be a Chair’s letter or a letter written by another supervisor (clinical, research, or service related)
Please note: We use a multi-criteria based selection process. Therefore, we do not provide minimum score or grade requirements. Observerships/externships are not provided in our department.

Interview Process
During the application season, we will be conducting all interviews virtually. Applicants invited to interview will receive detailed information regarding the interview process at the time an invitation is extended.
Applicants invited to interview with our program will have an opportunity to participate in a virtual mixer with current residents to ask questions and learn more about our program.
