Division of Pediatric Nephrology
Delivering compassionate care, advancing research and training the next generation of pediatric nephrology leaders.
The U-M Medical School Department of Pediatrics Division of Pediatric Nephrology excels in patient care, research and physician training. The division's goals are to provide state-of-the-art care for patients with all forms of kidney disease from infancy through late adolescence, as well as to advance our knowledge about pediatric kidney diseases.
Clinical Care
The Division of Pediatric Nephrology is staffed by a team of attending physicians, fellows, nurses, dietitians, a psychologist and social workers. We practice in partnership across the Children’s Hospital to provide high quality, multi-disciplinary health care to meet the needs of each child and family. On average, our division sees more than 4,000 children in our outpatient clinics every year. We average 15-20 chronic dialysis patients and perform approximately 700 acute inpatient dialysis treatments per year. Our program performs 15 to 20 transplants per year. Education
We are committed to advancing the field of Pediatric Nephrology through the education of physicians, fellows, medical students and residents.
Our Pediatric Nephrology fellowship program is designed to provide clinical training and research opportunities to allow trainees to be successful as academic pediatric nephrologist and deliver the highest quality patient care and experience to children with kidney disease from infancy to young adulthood.
Research
The Pediatric Nephrology Division employs clinical, health services research methodologies, translational and basic research to improve the health and care of children with kidney disease. This is a highly collaborative program with assembled experts from across scientific disciplines and institutions to focus on the needs of children and adults with kidney disease. The Pediatric Nephrology research program includes career development opportunities for faculty, fellows, residents and students and includes innumerable options to explore research careers, methods and mentored projects. The program receives funding from a variety of sources including Department of Defense, NIH, foundations, philanthropy and industry.
