Back to Research Training Grants Facilities & Resources PhD Program Facilities & Resources Pioneers in Research Access to world-class amenities Facilities & Resources As part of the University of Michigan, PIBS is connected to a strong research community, one that is steeped in a long history of groundbreaking science. Our pioneering efforts are possible because of a dynamic environment that is traditionally well funded and supported by state-of-the-art facilities in close proximity, encouraging interdisciplinary interaction and innovation. As a PIBS student, you will benefit greatly from access to these world-class amenities — and the people associated with them. Biomedical Research Core Facilities The Biomedical Research Core Facilities are a collection of campus-wide, centralized laboratories for developing and providing state-of-the-art biomedical research resources, and are available on a fee-for-service basis to the entire biomedical research community throughout the University of Michigan. Biomedical Science Research Building The Biomedical Science Research Building was planned around scientific themes rather than the traditional department model, allowing faculty with related research interests to be in close proximity for collaboration and innovation. Core Technology Alliance The Core Technology Alliance is a collaborative network of advanced technology service facilities located at major research institutions across the state, including the University of Michigan. These state-of-the-art centers enable coordinated scientific leadership, marketing, strategic planning, and decision-making across the core facilities. Life Sciences Institute The Life Sciences Institute links the medical and undergraduate campuses, bringing together health sciences, basic sciences, engineering, the social sciences, and the humanities as a center for collaboration to focus on the biological problems of human health. Stem Cell Research As a world leader in adult stem cell research and home to one of six U.S. core facilities for the maintenance of federally approved lines of human embryonic stem cells, the University of Michigan offers complete resources for this promising field of science. Locations include the U-M Medical School’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Center for Stem Cell Biology at the Life Sciences Institute, and the Michigan Center for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research. U-M Medical School Departments & Centers The Medical School is committed to educating students, physicians, and biomedical scholars for the benefit of patients around the world. This is accomplished through 25 clinical and basic science departments, as well as the Department of Learning Health Sciences and the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine. U-M Medical School Office of Research Located within the Medical School, the Office of Research aims to identify emerging scientific fields and support cutting-edge research and researchers as they translate knowledge into practice. University of Michigan Research A vast online resource that includes information on research-related topics, such as: news and facts, funding, proposals, review boards, policies and guidelines, a comprehensive directory of University of Michigan researchers, technology transfers, intellectual property, training and more.
