Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship
The U-M Medical School Department of Pediatrics' Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship program aims are guided by the six core competencies and overriding mission of the program.
Our mission is to provide comprehensive clinical and research training that will prepare our graduates to deliver compassionate pediatric rheumatology care of the highest quality to children in Michigan and the world.

Program Aims
- Patient Care: Provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the treatment of rheumatologic diseases in children.
- Medical Knowledge: Demonstrate and utilize knowledge about established and evolving basic, translational, and clinical science as relates to pediatric rheumatologic diseases.
- Professionalism: Exhibit cultural awareness and humility in interactions with patients and colleagues.
Demonstrate a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities in an ethical manner. - Systems-based Practice: Develop the ability to call on resources to provide pediatric rheumatology care of optimal value within the context of medical system limitations (ie, insurance barriers, limitations in supplies/personnel).

Message from the Program Director
We are delighted that you are considering joining our program. We are dedicated to training the next generation of leaders in pediatric rheumatology through a comprehensive and enriching fellowship experience. We offer both a three year pediatric rheumatology fellow and a combined fellowship in pediatric and adult rheumatology of four year’s duration for qualified applicants.
At our institution, fellows are an integral part of our team, working closely with our expert faculty to provide exceptional care for children with rheumatic diseases. Our program offers a balance of clinical practice, research opportunities, and academic development, ensuring you gain the skills and knowledge needed to excel in your career.
In addition to our robust clinical training, we emphasize the importance of research and scholarly activity. You will have the opportunity to participate in innovative projects, work alongside leading researchers, and present your findings at national and international conferences.

Salary & Benefits
We offer highly competitive salaries and generous benefits to our residents, fellows, and advanced trainees. Trainee salary will be commensurate with that of a House Officer at an equivalent level of training based on the HOA contract.

Recent Graduates
Nicholas McClellan, DO
Dr. McClellan received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. He completed his Pediatric Residency Training at Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Dr. McClellan is currently practicing at the Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin
Anne Murphy, MD
Dr. Murphy received her MD degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 2015. She completed her combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Michigan in 2019. Dr. Murphy completed her training in Pediatric and Adult Rheumatology in 2023. She is continuing to do research and is appointed as faculty in Internal Medicine and Pediatric Rheumatology
Ajay Tambralli, MD
Dr. Tambralli received his MD degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 2014. He completed his combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester in New York in 2018. Dr. Tambralli’s research focused on immunometabolism in antiphospholipid syndrome neutrophils. His research mentor was Dr. Jason Knight. Dr. Tambralli completed her combined Pediatric and Med-Peds Rheumatology Fellowship training in 2022. He has joined the faculty in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Michigan.
Jacqueline Madison, MD
Dr. Madison received her MD from the University of Michigan Medical School in 2013. She completed her combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics (Med-Peds) at the University of Michigan in 2017. Dr. Madison’s research focused on antiphospho- lipid syndrome in children. Her research mentor was Dr. Jason Knight. Dr. Madison completed her combined Pediatric and Med-Peds Rheumatology Fellowship training in 2021. She has joined the faculty in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Michigan.
Christopher J. Failing, MD
Dr. Failing received his MD degree from University of North Dakota School of Medicine in 2014. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Michigan, Mott Children’s Hospital in 2017. He completed his fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology in 2020. His scholarly activity project during fellowship was entitled "(CBD) Use Among Children With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis." Dr. Failing is currently working full time as a pediatric rheumatologist at Essentia Health in Fargo.
