At the U-M Medical School Department of Internal Medicine Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine, a one-year, ACGME-approved Ilene R. Joseph Interventional Pulmonology (IP) Fellowship Program has been designed to develop, nurture, and train future leaders in Interventional Pulmonology.
Our field is focused on understanding, managing, and advancing innovations in bronchology and pleural disease. We perform a range of interventions, including complex advanced diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy and advanced pleural procedures.
University of Michigan Health has been named one of the nation’s best hospitals and is nationally ranked in twelve specialties, including pulmonology, which was recognized as the best in Michigan.
Our knowledge and procedural expertise span across the spectrum of malignant and non-malignant diseases, such as lung cancer (diagnosis, staging, and therapeutics), evaluation and management of peripheral pulmonary nodules, metastatic cancer of the chest, central airway obstruction (malignant, tracheal/bronchial stenosis, tracheobronchomalacia), pleural disease, and post-transplant airway complications.
Beyond rigorous procedural training, the IP fellowship will advance understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the airways, mediastinum, lung parenchyma, pleural space through didactics, clinical experience, and multidisciplinary conferences. This training reinforces and expands upon the foundation built during the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship.
We invite you to explore our program and discover how you can make a difference in our field.
