Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship Curriculum

The Electrophysiology Fellowship Training Program in the Department of Internal Medicine Division of Cardiovascular Medicine balances clinical training with a formal didactic lecture series, opportunities for research, and participation in national and international conferences.

In addition, we provide a wellness and leadership lecture series to complement your clinical training. Our goal is to provide you the best preparation for a productive and well balanced career practicing cardiac electrophysiology.

Clinical Rotations

The clinical electrophysiology fellowship provides extensive training in procedural skills in the electrophysiology laboratory both at the University of Michigan Hospital and the Ann Arbor Veterans Administration Hospital. Graduates from the program are trained to be proficient and independent in basic and advanced device and ablation procedures. This hands-on experience in the electrophysiology laboratory is complemented with clinical and device management training in the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Didactic Series

Supplementing the clinical training are formal didactics which are an integral part of the electrophysiology fellowship experience. Several weekly conferences provide education including EGM interpretation and clinical case management, and cover the full scope of topics to prepare fellows in-training for practice as an independent clinician as well as for board certification.

In addition to the weekly conferences, additional didactics include journal clubs hosted by the electrophysiology faculty, the leadership lecture series given by internal and external speakers, the wellness program, and cardiac simulator sessions.

Research

Electrophysiology fellows at Michigan Medicine are provided the mentorship and resources to produce meaningful research during their fellowship and to lay the groundwork for a productive academic career. Fellows regularly prepare and present abstracts in major national and international conferences and publish in top academic journals. Training and mentorship is also available within the department in grant preparation and trial design. As part of a national leading cardiovascular center and academic institution, great opportunities also exist for collaboration with various other departments and schools.

Clinical Facilities

Discover the spaces where you'll train, and learn the practice at the U-M Medical School. As one of the largest training programs, we provide unparalleled opportunities and facilities for our learners.
