MDisability Clinical Care
MDisability is tackling the fact that healthcare professional programs have limited opportunities for students and trainees to learn how to effectively care for this population.
Our Family Medicine clinicians have both lived and clinical experience in a variety of disability health topics.
Deaf Health Clinic
The Deaf Health Clinic, located at Family Medicine’s Dexter Family Health Center, provides accessible and tailored primary care for Deaf and hard of hearing patients.
Our ASL fluent providers (two physicians and one master social worker) are ready to take care of your health care needs, including:
- Primary care: We are board certified to provide care for all ages (infant to old age). Our goal is to keep you healthy by preventing illnesses and managing any existing diseases. We do this by looking at all aspects of your life, your physical, emotional, and social well-being. We also offer a variety of office procedures as well.
- Prenatal and obstetrics care
- Mental health: As an integrated behavioral health model program designed for Deaf patients, we offer both in-person or videophone appointments to take care of your mental health needs. Our behavioral health providers are trained to assess your psychosocial needs as well as provide counseling and/or care management services. Learn more about our behavioral health services by visiting Deaf Mental Health.
MI-CARE clinic
The Michigan Improves Care, Access, Resources, and Experiences (MI-CARE) clinic was established to improve primary care for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
The MI-CARE clinic is a collaborative initiative between the Department of Family Medicine, the Center for Disability Health and Wellness, MDisability, and the Teaching and Education for Autism and Developmental Disabilities Management (TEAM).
As the first of its kind in Michigan, this partnership aims to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care for adolescents and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
