Preventive Medicine Research
Researchers from the U-M Medical School Department of Family Medicine are at the forefront of preventive medicine studies, whether that's helping to boost good nutrition habits among various populations or predicting which Alzheimer's disease patients may be most in need of preventive services to reduce potentially preventable hospitalizations.
Our team is also driving the development, testing, and recent FDA approval of an HPV self-test, which may aid in preventing cervical cancer.
Additionally, our researchers conduct studies on preventing diabetes, reducing high-risk medication harms during hospitalization, and addressing opioid/stimulant overdose.
Preventive medicine focuses on the health of individuals, communities, and defined populations. Its goal is to protect, promote, and maintain health and well-being and to prevent disease, disability, and death.
