Building Healthier Lives

We help people and communities live healthier lives—at every age and every stage.

About Family Medicine

The U-M Medical School Department of Family Medicine is a nationally recognized leader in care, education and research—driven by the values that define our specialty. Since our founding in 1978, we’ve championed the core principles of family medicine and helped shape how they’re practiced across the health system.

We offer comprehensive, patient- and family-centered services built on accessibility, coordination, accountability, compassion and evidence-based care. Our commitment to health equity, community engagement and care for underserved populations is central to everything we do—and continues to guide our impact locally and beyond.

Why Choose Family Medicine?

Family is important to us. That’s why our physicians are here to care for your whole family—through every stage of life. With ongoing, personalized care, your family doctor gets to know you not just as a patient, but as a person, building a complete picture of your health over time.

Our focus is on keeping you well—by preventing illness, supporting lifelong wellness, and managing chronic conditions when they arise. From prenatal care and delivery to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and senior care, we’re here for your entire family, every step of the way.
