The fellowship programs at the U-M Medical School Department of Family Medicine are among the top programs in the nation. Our evidence-based approach to teaching creates an environment for learning the foundations of family medicine while developing the intellectual skills to critically evaluate and incorporate new information.

Our resources allow our department to continually develop innovative fellowship programs to meet to changing needs of new family physicians and the healthcare system.

Fellowships
Academic Fellowship

Providing trainees a one-year clinical lecturer program with academic, clinical and administrative training while teaching and attending in family medicine.

Advanced Primary Care Ultrasound

Training primary care physicians to direct programs, teach, conduct research and engage nationally and regionally.

Community Medicine Fellowship

Practicing clinical experiences with underserved communities, individualized training, teaching and a sustainable health project.

Disability Health Fellowship

Training leaders through policy education, community engagement and research, supported by key university partnerships.

Geriatric Medicine Fellowship

Developing compassionate and knowledgeable geriatricians who utilize a team approach to render high-quality care to older adults.

Hospice & Palliative Medicine

Training in palliative medicine through diverse clinical, educational and research experiences for board certification.

Integrative Medicine Fellowship

Producing leaders in the field of integrative medicine who excel in clinical practice.

Reproductive Health Care & Advocacy

Promoting comprehensive women's reproductive healthcare in primary care for underserved populations.

Sleep Medicine Fellowship

Enhancing fellows’ expertise in the diagnosis and management of sleep-wake disorders.

Sports Medicine Fellowship

Providing comprehensive clinical and academic training with hands-on experience in musculoskeletal ultrasound.

Women's Health Fellowship

Focusing on a multidisciplinary experience to expand their expertise and focus in the field of Women’s Health.

National Clinician Scholars Program

This program seeks to recruit, train and advance physicians in all specialties who wish to become leaders in research and policy both within and outside the walls of academia. The program stresses training in quantitative and qualitative research methods underlying health services research essential to improving health and medical care systems. The goal of the program is the integration of Scholars’ previous clinical training with skills in program development and research methodology to help them find solutions for issues in public policy, community health and clinical practice. In addition to the University of Michigan, there are several other national training sites for this program.
