Integrative & Complementary Medicine Research

The U-M Medical School Department of Family Medicine Integrative Family Medicine, an interdisciplinary program, is committed to the thoughtful and compassionate integration of complementary therapies and conventional medicine through research, education, clinical services, and community partnerships.

As a healing-oriented approach to medical care, integrative medicine considers the whole person (body, mind, spirit, and emotion), as well as all aspects of lifestyle.

For example, our researchers examine the effects of integrative medicine like mindfulness, as well as acupressure to alleviate chronic pain, as well as cancer-related pain and fatigue. The program also includes a popular student elective, an integrative medicine track for residents, and a traditional integrative medicine fellowship, which helps train family medicine providers (both MDs and DOs).

Our researchers also train the next generation of integrative oncology practitioners through the Integrative Oncology Scholars Program, which includes a fellowship program.
