U-M Medical School Certified Nurse-Midwives provide prenatal and gynecologic care at five area health centers and one community clinic, with all births occurring at the Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital Birth Center in a full-scope midwifery model. Patients seen in this group have all their care managed independently by midwives unless complications occur and require collaborative management with physician colleagues. Our group practice has expertise in unmedicated birth and water birth and regularly cares for women desiring vaginal birth after cesarean.

Certified Nurse-Midwives also provide direct patient care at Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital in a team-based model managing patients who receive care from the Obstetrician/Gynecologist team during pregnancy. We staff Obstetric Triage and collaboratively manage, with physician colleagues and learners, labor, birth, and postpartum care.

The Nurse-Midwifery Division also manages the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program. This program maintains 24/7 on-call staff trained to provide comprehensive, compassionate, and technically skilled forensic examination for all patients presenting to Emergency Services and University Health Services reporting recent sexual assault.
