Ongoing Educational Opportunities
The U-M Medical School Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is committed to the ongoing development and education of our faculty, staff and learners.
Each year, we provide over 100 CME activities for physicians and healthcare professionals to enhance learning and improve patient outcomes. The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology holds weekly, monthly and annual education conferences, including:
- Grand Rounds: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology holds weekly Grand Rounds to ensure that our faculty and learners stay current on the latest clinical, research, and technological developments in order to improve care delivery for the patients we serve.
- Journal Club: Each month, faculty, fellows, and residents gather at a faculty member’s home to discuss the latest Obstetrics and Gynecology literature over dinner and refreshments. These discussions not only ensure that our learners stay abreast of the latest medical literature, but also teach them the skills needed to critically evaluate this literature and develop an understanding of study design and statistics.
- Morbidity and Mortality Conference: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology holds a weekly Morbidity and Mortality conference where senior residents present cases or events from the Obstetrics, Benign Gynecology and Gyn Oncology services to faculty members. The focus is on systems issues and root cause analysis.
- Clinical Reasoning Conference: Once monthly, a Clinical Reasoning Conference replaces M&M. Each resident prepares a case list, and faculty inquisitors ask questions. The goal is to practice oral presentations, to help residents describe and defend their clinical care and to demonstrate their fund of knowledge.
In addition to these department-wide learning opportunities, OBGYN faculty have access to both internal and external professional development resources, including:
Michigan Medical School Office of Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development:
Many professional growth opportunities are offered by the Medical School Office of Faculty Development. Topics include promotion, leadership skills and mindfulness.
Quality Department:
The Quality Department offers virtual and in-person education in lean skills, patient safety and quality improvement.
