Our Divisions

Our divisions bring together expertise across specialties.

The U-M Medical School Department of Emergency Medicine’s specialized divisions bring together expertise in Critical Care, Emergency Medical Services, Ultrasound and Clinical Informatics. Across these areas, our faculty and teams advance emergency care through clinical excellence, innovation, research and education—improving how care is delivered from the prehospital setting through the emergency department and beyond.

  • Advancing Clinical Care: Our divisions provide specialized expertise across the continuum of emergency care, supporting critically ill and injured patients, prehospital systems, point-of-care diagnostics, and data-driven improvements in care delivery.

  • Driving Innovation: Our divisions bring specialized expertise to complex challenges in emergency care, developing new approaches, tools, and technologies that improve care and shape the future of emergency medicine.

  • Discovery & Impact: Division faculty lead research and quality improvement initiatives that address complex challenges in emergency medicine and translate new knowledge into better systems and practices for patients and communities.

  • Educating the Next Generation: Through hands-on clinical education, mentorship, fellowships, and interdisciplinary training, our divisions prepare physicians to lead and innovate across the evolving landscape of emergency care.
