Launch Committees
Launch Committees are designed to offer support and guidance to new junior faculty as they begin their careers at Michigan.
The goal of a Launch Committee is to provide advice, information and encouragement to new faculty, within a confidential and positive atmosphere. Committees will assist the launchee from the beginning of their first year as faculty at Michigan by regularly meeting with them every other month for one year.
New Faculty Orientation
New Faculty Orientation (NFO) is for all new medical school faculty and is held monthly with the following objectives:
- Provide a basic overview of the University and the Health System.
- Introduce faculty to important policies.
- Outline promotion expectations by track.
- Offer the opportunity for faculty to get their U-M ID badge and/or parking pass.
- Describe resources available to assist in the faculty member's new role.
Early Career Kickstart
New faculty attend these sessions 3 months to a year after their orientation. Once the faculty member has had a few months to settle in at U-M, we provide a second session to help faculty succeed in their new role. These workshops offer track specific information/resources and also include:
- Research track: Funding and grant resources, and setting up your lab
- Tenure track: Medical School education overview, graduate/postdoc education, career trajectory timelines, funding and grant resources, and hiring & managing
- Clinical track: Overview and discussion of clinical track pathways, leveraging AI in teaching
