Leadership Academy
This program is an accelerated 4-day immersive learning experience that draws on the participant’s 360° assessment of leadership competencies and skills.
Leadership Academy focuses on the development of Michigan Medicine and University of Michigan Campus leaders.
Program Overview
Leadership Academy focuses on the development of Michigan Medicine and University of Michigan Campus leaders. The mission of the Academy is to accelerate the development of leaders so that they can reach higher levels of success and produce better results for the University of Michigan. The Academy accomplishes this by developing essential competencies and skills, introducing new approaches and global best practices, and inspiring personal commitment to leadership development.
The Leadership Academy’s curriculum focuses on 3 major themes; Leading Self, Leading Others and Leading in a Complex Organization. The first two days concentrate on self and teams and the last two days on the organization. The Leadership Academy involves interaction among peer leaders in our organization; leveraging a dynamic mix of concepts, activities, practical tools, self-assessments, case studies, and team learning.

Nominations for 2026 cohorts are now open.
Participants are currently selected through a nomination process. If you have a leader that reports to you whom you wish to nominate, please complete the nomination form for an upcoming cohort.
Nominees should be mid-level leaders (both faculty and administrators) who have at least 3 direct reports and have taken a basic leadership course previously (e.g. Foundations of Leadership or Essential Skills for Successful Leadership [offered throughout the year by Faculty Development, check the Upcoming Workshops page).
Key Dates
These cohorts will be held in-person at The Kensington Hotel. Sessions will be held each day from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Participants must attend all four days.The upcoming cohort dates are as follows:
Cohort 59: May 6-7 & June 10-11, 2026
Cohort 60: September 21-22 & October 26-27, 2026
Cohort 61: November 11-12 & December 9-10, 2026
Expected Results
After completing this activity, participants will be able to lead self, lead others and lead in a complex organization. These skills will ultimately improve the quality of patient care provision throughout the institution.

- Maximize the contribution of each team member’s thinking, while developing cohesiveness among team members
- Give feedback in a direct and tactful manner
