• Planning a Competitive Grant Proposal: This recorded webinar covers the steps to planning and writing a successful grant proposal. This presentation was given by Jill Jividen, PhD, Director of Research Development, OVPR in July 2020.
• Grant Services & Analysis: Grant Services & Analysis serves several functions for the Medical School and Michigan Medicine, including:
  • Review all proposals routed through eResearch Proposal Management (eRPM)
  • Provide pre- and post-award support
  • Provide data for sections of the M-DASH and M-STAT systems
  • Design and implement Research Development services that help faculty become successful in obtaining and maintaining extramural funding

• Springer Nature Masterclasses: These masterclasses are now available to faculty, staff, and students on all three University of Michigan campuses thanks to the sponsorship of the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research (MICHR), the UMMS Office of Faculty Development, and the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR).
• R01 Bootcamp: Apply to be a coach or a mentee in the R01 Bootcamp, a program designed to help participants get their first R01 grant. 
• U-M Office of Research Workshops: Programs from the main campus Office of Research.
• PEERRS: U-M online program in the conducting of responsible research.

• Michigan Research Experts: This tool scans and analyzes publications, creating a portrait of a U-M researcher's expertise and exposing connections among authors. Useful for finding collaborators in your research area.
• Writing Accountability Groups: The Grant Services & Analysis (GS&A) Research Development team supports research and proposal development by organizing writing accountability groups (WAGs). Email [email protected] to be placed on the interested list for WAG opportunities.

• EMERSE (Electronic Medical Records Search Engine): EMERSE (Electronic Medical Record Search Engine) provides a self-service web-based tool for authorized users to search clinical notes from our electronic medical record (CareWeb and Michart).
• Research Project Lifecycle: The UMMS Office of Research has created a visual Research Project Lifecycle, designed to show you the process of research here at the University of Michigan.
• Think. Check. Submit: This helps researchers identify trusted journals and publishers for their research. Through a range of tools and practical resources, this international, cross-sector initiative aims to educate researchers, promote integrity, and build trust in credible research and publications.
• NIH Collaboration And Team Science: A Field Guide: The guide was developed to help researchers navigate some of the rocky and murky territory associated with building a team either on their own or at the request of someone in their organization. It is intended for anyone who is currently participating on or leading a research team, considering becoming involved in a research team, or contemplating building a research team.
• Survey Design & Consultation: Consulting for Statistics, Computing and Analytics Research (CSCAR) provides free statistical consulting to all U-M faculty, staff, and graduate students to help with the design, planning, analysis, and presentation of results of research.

Two listservs, one for faculty and one for staff, are available for exchanging scientific ideas and making inquiries to the U-M Medical School research community regarding scientific protocols, resources, expertise, and potential collaborators. The listservs are managed by the Office of Research and moderated to ensure that members receive only messages related to research and our research environment.

The faculty-research-xchange is used for issues that are relevant to a large number of members, related to research development or administration, and that are either particularly time sensitive or unlikely to be effectively communicated through another medium. Medical School research faculty are automatically included in the faculty-research-xchange, and faculty members also have the option to join the staff-research-xchange for other inquiries, e.g., resource sharing.

The staff-research-xchange is used mainly by laboratory research project faculty and staff for issues regarding hands-on materials, equipment, procedures and analyses, e.g., recommendations for a vendor; share extra resources; ask for advice regarding materials. Membership is managed via an opt-in MCommunity group called staff-research-xchange.
