Many human diseases are linked to genetic dysfunctions. DCMB faculty collaborate with human genetics experts to:
Identify foundational knowledge gaps and develop innovative bioinformatics and computational biology theories and AI and Machine Learning methods to address these.
Test and refine existing theories and AI and Machine Learning methods in bioinformatics and computational medicine toward the study of genetic diseases.
Develop new AI and Machine Learning methods and computational tools for diagnostics and treatments.
The diseases that DCMB/CCMB faculty members study include:
- Alzheimer’s Disease (Guan)
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis - ALS (Boyle, Karnovsky, Sartor)
- Ataxia (Burmeister)
- Cancers (Baladandayuthapani, Guan, Li, Kitzman, Omenn, Rajapakse, Sartor, Taylor)
- Heart and Brain Health (Wang)
- Mental disorders (Athey, Burmeister, Li)
- Metabolic diseases and obesity (Speliotes)
- Renal diseases (Kretzler)
- Skin diseases (Tsoi)
- Substance Use Disorders - SUD (Burmeister, Athey)
- Type 2 Diabetes - T2D (Parker)
This research overlaps with the study of 4D Nucleome.
