The U-M Medical School Department of Anesthesiology Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship training program is a one-year program accredited by the American College of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). We offer nine positions yearly and are committed to recruiting a diverse group of fellows dedicated to compassionate clinical care and a rich learning environment.
Fellows will gain a wide variety of experience in the management of difficult pediatric cases, including complex congenital heart disease, neonates, premature neonates, fetal surgery, and transplant. Our pediatric operating rooms are located in our free-standing 348-bed C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, the top-ranked children’s hospital in Michigan (U.S. News & World Report).
Our fellowship offers several unique advantages:
- We are one of the busiest centers for congenital cardiac surgery and offer an advanced fellowship in pediatric cardiac anesthesia.
- Our fellows join ongoing research projects and are highly successful in presenting and winning awards at national meetings.
- We offer the opportunity to participate in a robust awake infant spinal anesthesia program, which offers a regional anesthetic option for infants undergoing qualifying procedures.
- The University of Michigan alumni network is one of the largest and strongest in the country, allowing for networking opportunities in anesthesia and beyond.
Applicants should apply through the San Francisco Match Central Application Service. Please visit the SF Match website for application information and deadlines.
- Our goal is to recruit a diverse fellow group and develop excellent clinician-teacher-leader-investigators in the field of pediatric anesthesiology.
- Our aim is to enhance the passion for medicine and compassion for patients and families of all socioeconomic backgrounds for all of our fellows.
- Our mission is to provide a superior learning environment for the training and development of fellows in the field of pediatric anesthesiology by including outstanding clinical, didactic, and research opportunities. As an integral part of Michigan Medicine, we put our “Patients and Families First and Value Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).”
The University of Michigan offers highly competitive salaries and generous benefits to our fellows and advanced trainees. Trainee salary will be commensurate with that of a House Officer at an equivalent level of training based on the HOA contract.
Current fellows are receiving comprehensive, interdisciplinary and collaborative training to become consultants and practitioners in their field.
The fellowship curriculum offers a wide variety of exposure to all types of pediatric anesthesia cases while encouraging critical thinking and evidenced based practice.
The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan seeks to be the pre-eminent academic anesthesiology department in the world by making major advances in the field of anesthesiology, as well as medicine and science in general, and developing the next generation of outstanding researchers.
- Coordinating center for the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG)
- Participation in the multi-institutional PeDI (pediatric difficult airway) Registry
- Involvement in the Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery Perioperative Registry.
Fellows have the opportunity to participate in scholarly work and can engage in an ongoing research project under the guidance of mentors. Many of our fellows present at local and national meetings.
We are committed to enhancing the diversity of our department and providing a safe and inclusive space for our learners, our faculty and staff, and our patient
