A message from the Michigan Medicine Alumni Society president.
Samantha Spencer (M.D. 2000)
More than 20,000 strong, the University of Michigan Medical School alumni community is made up of compassionate, talented individuals who are impacting the lives of people all over the globe.
As professionals, we have pursued different passions and served in all specialties of medicine. And while we have taken different paths in our careers, there is one ambition we continue to share: a desire to help others.
This inspiration is what called us to become physicians, researchers, administrators, and leaders — and what brought us to the U-M Medical School in the first place. Our time at the U-M Medical School taught us important skills and instilled knowledge that would enable us to become the best doctors we could be. As we joined the Michigan medical family, we learned to provide care, comfort, and understanding to patients and families in their times of greatest need.
Michigan is a place known for teamwork. The Michigan Medicine Alumni Society is committed to finding ways for alumni to connect, form friendships, and learn from one another. We also provide opportunities for alumni to remain engaged with the Medical School and the promising learners who are beginning their journeys in medicine. From the HOST program to welcome zooms to mentoring (both virtual and in person), there are many ways of outreach and support.
I encourage you to take advantage of some of the exciting opportunities to get involved with your alma mater. There are so many ways that alumni can enhance their knowledge, build strong relationships, and mentor future leaders in medicine.
We hope to hear from you soon. Go Blue!
