Be Part of the Legacy

Being an alumnus of the University of Michigan Medical School is more than just a footnote in your professional history — it's an opportunity to carry on the institution's legacy and commitment to excellence. With more than 20,000+ graduates worldwide, you are part of a global community that strives to improve the well-being of humankind through the practice of medicine and the conduct of research.

The Michigan Medicine Alumni Society, was established in 1960 to support that very community. Our mission is to provide fertile ground for U-M Medical School alumni to connect with, befriend and learn from one another. Graduates of the Medical School and/or medical science programs in the Rackham Graduate School, former residents and fellows, and current and emeritus faculty comprise our members.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Michigan Medicine Alumni Society is committed to strengthening a culture of anti-racism at Michigan Medicine and the University of Michigan Medical School, and helping to ensure our institutions remain leaders in equity, justice, and inclusion for people of all backgrounds.

Recent incidences of racism, hate crimes, and inflammatory rhetoric in our country have once again brought to our attention the ugliness, fear, and unequal treatment that members of our community encounter all too frequently. We stand together with everyone across U-M in denouncing all forms of hatred and in striving to offer a positive path forward when confronted with actions that contradict our institution’s mission and values.

We are dedicated to supporting inclusivity and opportunities to increase equity for students, faculty, staff, alumni, patients, and all others who are impacted by injustice and inequality. We will push to understand and eliminate disparities within our institutions and beyond. And we will continue to help seek solutions to our society’s most distressing problems so that all people have the chance to thrive.

History

The Michigan Medicine Alumni Society (MMAS) was founded in 1960 as an affiliate of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan. MMAS was one of the first alumni societies at U-M whose membership consisted of graduates of a particular school or college.

MMAS has constantly evolved and adapted to meet our goal of serving the needs of the U-M Medical School students and alumni. Our mission continues to focus on building, connecting, and supporting the family of medicine at U-M.
