In 2006, the Michigan Medicine Alumni Society partnered with the Galens Medical Society to sponsor cash prizes for its annual Golden and Bronze Beeper Awards. Galens members present these coveted awards to resident physicians who best exemplify the Medical School's high standards of education, leadership and patient care, as voted on by students. The winners are announced on the second night of the Galens Smoker, an annual play produced by student members of the Galens Society, and receive a commemorative golden or bronze beeper pin to wear on their white coats.

The Golden Beeper is presented to one male and one female resident who receive the most votes. The Bronze Beeper is awarded to the 10 residents who receive the next-highest number of votes.
