Genome Structure & Function
Our genome is intricately structured at multiple levels in the cell. However, how these structural aspects affect cellular function and cause disease is largely unknown.
Our researchers are uncovering these mysteries of our genome by employing cutting-edge experimental and computational approaches. Our work encompasses the realms of basic, applied and clinical research. For example, we investigate: the molecular mechanisms driving de novo variants in germ cells; how ‘jumping genes’ or retrotransposons affect the structure our genome function; and how transcriptional regulatory elements direct gene expression at the proper time and space.
We also develop and employ cutting-edge approaches to address these questions including novel single-cell genomics, and super-resolution microscopy, nascent RNA sequencing, massively parallel mutagenesis, and transcriptional assays with big data analysis tools.
