Dermatology Rotation for Visiting Medical Students

Students from medical schools outside the University of Michigan are welcome to apply for a visiting dermatology rotation in our department through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) website. We offer 4-week in-person rotations, which align with the University of Michigan Medical School academic calendar:

  • Period 05: 05/12/25-06/08/25
  • Period 06: 06/09/25-07/06/25
  • Period 07: 07/07/25-08/03/25
  • Period 08: 08/04/25-08/31/25
  • Period 09: 09/01/25-09/28/25
  • Period 10: 09/29/25-10/26/25
How to Apply

Applicants are asked to submit a personal statement including reasons for interest in the University of Michigan Department of Dermatology as well as a letter of recommendation. We will begin accepting applications at the beginning of March 2025, and students selected will be notified shortly thereafter for the available rotation periods. Please note the deadline to submit an application is April 1, 2025. We hope to extend invitations in mid-April.

For students interested in applying to the Health Advancement Visiting Clerkship (HAVC) please see additional information below.

Although we will try to accommodate date requests, this may not always be feasible. Due to scheduling constraints, we are unable to do alternate rotation dates. Invitation and participation in a visiting elective at the University of Michigan does not guarantee an invitation for a dermatology residency interview in the upcoming application cycle.

Application Deadline

We will begin accepting applications at the beginning of March 2025. The deadline to submit an application is April 1, 2025.

Health Advancement Visiting Clerkship (HAVC)

HAVC is a unique opportunity for students to spend time at Michigan Medicine participating in a sub-internship experience with a department of their interest, as well as engaging on topics addressing healthcare disparities. During their visit with us, each scholar receives $2000 to help cover the cost of doing an away rotation. Those interested in this program, should mention their interest in their VSLO personal statement and complete the separate application through the Office of Health Equity and Inclusion (OHEI).
