- Choose Master of Science in Physiology, NOT Molecular & Integrative Physiology PhD
- Standardized Test Scores (Optional): Self-report all scores (MCAT, GRE, DAT, PCAT, PA-CAT, OAT) on the application and submit official scores to Rackham.
- GRE, DAT, PCAT, PA-CAT, OAT: Institution Code 1839.
- MCAT: Send to “Univ. of Michigan M.S. Program in Physiology.”
GPA Requirements
- Science GPA: Min. 3.0 (Coursework) / 3.5 (Research). Self-report the Science GPA. Upload AMCAS/AACOMAS/ADEA AADSAS/CASPA/PharmCAS/PTCAS/OptomCAS GPA calculation pages if available.
- Overall GPA: Min. 3.0 (Coursework) / 3.5 (Research). Self-report and send all transcripts to Rackham Graduate School, Program 00395.
Transcripts
- Unofficial copies accepted for application, but official copies from bachelor’s degree institutions required for matriculation.
Statements
- Academic Statement of Purpose: ~500 words detailing academic and research background, career goals, and fit with U-M’s M.S. Program in Physiology.
- Personal Statement: ~500 words about how your background and experiences have influenced your decision to pursue your intended profession.
- Optional Essay: ~500 words (optional) discussing personal challenges or obstacles.
- Include all essays in the online application.
Letters of Reference
- Three letters required, including at least two from course professors and one from a science instructor. View submission options.
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Use the provided template and upload to the online application.

- Specify Research or Coursework track. If unsure or interested in both, select both.
Prerequisite Courses
- Required: Introductory Biology, General/Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and an English or Intensive-writing course.

Concurrent Applicants
- Coursework Track: Fall, Winter, and Spring half-term, with a June Capstone Project.
- Research Track: Fall, Winter, and Summer half-term ending mid-August. Early start in the lab can lead to earlier completion.

- Complete FAFSA:
- Before submitting your Rackham application, visit the University of Michigan's Office of Financial Aid and submit a FAFSA application. Use the code 00395.
- Ensure the FAFSA is completed to be considered for federal financial aid.
- Register as a Prospective Student:
- Begin by registering as a prospective student at the Rackham Graduate School.
- Check the Application Checklist:
- Review the Application Checklist to understand all required components and deadlines.
- Fill Out the Application Form:
- Choose "Master of Science in Physiology" as your program.
- Upload required documents, including your Personal Statement, Academic Statement of Purpose, and Curriculum Vitae (use the CV template).
- Submit the Application Form by May 15th.
- Test Scores and Letters of Reference:
- Ensure all standardized test scores and Letters of Reference are submitted before your application is reviewed.
- Transcripts:
- Rackham Graduate School must receive all undergraduate transcripts (both official and “In Progress”).
- Upload additional transcripts (e.g., military, other institutions) as a single PDF or email them to [email protected].
- Application Review:
- Your application will be queued for review, and subsequently discussed by the Admissions Committee.
- A decision may be made immediately or deferred.
- Interview:
- If recommended for admission, you will be contacted for an interview.
- Final Acceptance:
- Research Track applicants are initially accepted into the Coursework Track and should not contact mentors until prompted by the program.
- Final and official transcripts showing a conferred degree must be sent to Rackham Graduate School after acceptance.
- Notifications:
- Decision notifications are sent between March and August.

This program uses a modified rolling admission process, where some decisions are sent after each review, but the class will not be filled until all completed applications are reviewed.
Important Deadlines
- First Review: All materials must be received by 9:00 am on Monday, February 24, 2025.
- Second Review: All materials must be received by 9:00 am on Monday, March 24, 2025. International applicants are strongly encouraged to meet this deadline for timely immigration arrangements.
- Third Review: All materials must be received by 9:00 am on Monday, April 21, 2025.
- Final Review: All materials must be received by 11:59 pm on Thursday, May 15, 2025, which is the final deadline. No new materials will be accepted after this date, although updates to previously submitted materials are allowed.
