Supporting OGPS trainees with the many dimensions of wellness.

Individual Counseling Services

OGPS offers trainees short-term individual counseling on personal, emotional, family and academic/workplace issues. Individual counseling services provided by our office are intended to be solution focused. Clients are eligible for up to six counseling sessions a year. Our wellness counselors provide counseling services to all OGPS Trainees for FREE. Virtual and in-person are available.

Group Presentations & Outreach

The Counseling & Well-Being Program offers outreach presentations to OGPS-affiliated departments on a wide variety of mental health topics, including stress management, resilience, goal setting, managing transitions and many more. Presentations are subject to counselor availability. To explore the offered topics or request a presentation, complete the Counseling & Well-Being Presentation Request form.

Faculty Consultations

Counseling & Well-Being offers consultations with faculty and staff to support them in addressing concerns they may have about trainee or learner well-being. Schedule a consultation appointment with one of our clinicians.

Well-Being Counselors

Kate Hagadone, PhD, LP

(she/her/hers)
Kate is a licensed psychologist with experience working with students, learners, faculty, and staff in a wide variety of settings. She completed her MA and PhD degrees in Counseling Psychology from Southern Illinois University. She provides a safe, confidential space where OGPS trainees can explore the challenges they’re facing and helps them to determine what changes they would like to make. She utilizes an integrative & collaborative approach drawing from a biopsychosocial systems-based framework, integrating techniques from multicultural & feminist perspectives, ACT, mindfulness, trauma-informed therapy, IFS and interpersonal perspectives to best meet the individual needs of each trainee.

Kate provides counseling on a variety of topics, including stress management, work-life balance, procrastination, anxiety, depression, improving coping skills, identity concerns, and improving overall wellness. Kate also provides individual consultation for faculty on helping them address concerns about trainees’ well-being.
Clarissa Santana Headshot

Clarissa Santana, MA, LPC

Clarissa is a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) fluent in Spanish, dedicated to fostering compassionate, culturally-responsive care for all. She holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wayne State University. Clarissa uses an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from evidence-based practices and cultural awareness to create a safe, supportive environment where OGPS trainees can explore stressors, academic and personal challenges, build resilience, and work towards their goals.

Her therapeutic style incorporates techniques from trauma-informed therapy, multicultural perspectives, and mindfulness. She has extensive experience working with individuals facing burnout, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and trauma. Clarissa’s office is a welcoming and safe space for all, where trainees are encouraged to be themselves and feel fully supported as they navigate life’s challenges.

Personal well-being is a journey, with many aspects to consider. Through a holistic approach that recognizes the many dimensions of wellness, everyone can achieve personal and mindful awareness that is directly connected to thriving, both now and in the future.

Additional Options for 1-on-1 Counseling

Graduate students not only have this as an option, but also Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), which serves all students on campus. Michigan Medicine postdocs may alternatively visit the Michigan Medicine Office of Counseling and Workplace Resilience (OCWR).
