Welcome to the Anesthesia Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical School. We offer seven ACGME accredited fellowship positions each year.
We accept six anesthesiologists for a one-year fellowship and have approval from the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) to offer one, two-year ACCM training position for emergency medicine (EM) physicians.
- A strong emphasis on fellow education with almost daily instructional activities
- Comprehensive financial support provided for education, including a generous stipend, covered membership dues, access to question books, and additional conference and travel funding
- An opportunity to obtain ELSO Adult ECMO Practitioner Certification on-site at University of Michigan (only three sites in the U.S. currently)
- An emphasis on work-life-professional balance with administrative weeks integrated into core-ICU rotations to ensure ample time to complete professional endeavors, pursue research interest, and focus on personal well-being and health in addition to vacation weeks
- Frequent and flexible elective opportunities (taken in 1, 2, 3, or 4 week blocks) designed by the fellow to personalize their path on their career journey
- An opportunity to train at one of the top medical centers in the United States that consistently ranks highly in patient care, research, medical education and innovation
- Dedicated and personable program leadership who are committed to helping you reach your professional and personal aspirations
Along with most other ACCM programs in the country, we participate in the San Francisco Matching Program in our fellow selection process.

The University of Michigan offers highly competitive salaries and generous benefits to our fellows and advanced trainees. Trainee salary will be commensurate with that of a House Officer at an equivalent level of training based on the HOA contract.
I chose to pursue fellowship at the University of Michigan because I was excited to receive training at one of the top institutions in the country while recognizing that the program had a clear emphasis on supporting my well-being, career interests and individualized path to education.
Current Critical Care Medicine fellows are training to become competent anesthesiology intensivists in the theory, diagnosis and treatment of critical care related disorders.
We seek to be the pre-eminent academic anesthesiology department in the world by making major advances in the field and developing the next generation of outstanding researchers.
