    Research Overview

    I have a defined clinical and translational interest in the mechanisms underlying aberrant inflammation during aortic aneurysm formation and cardiovascular disease . My long-term goal is to uncover the basic mechanisms responsible for the coordination of immune cells in early tissue repair processes, determine impairments in vascular disease and translate this knowledge to the bedside. Since joining University of Michigan Vascular Surgery, my research has focused on the epigenetic regulation of immune and structural cell pheontypes as it relates to wound healing, aortic aneurysms, and inflammation. This work will provide important information on inflammatory macrophages in peripheral tissue and their contribution to chronic inflammation that may lead to novel treatment modalities.

    A statewide partnership of hospitals in Michigan, which drastically increased follow up imaging after aortic aneurysm repairs, resulted in patients having a nearly 60% decrease in the likelihood of dying within one year of surgery.
