Jorge D Machicado, MD, MPH

Dr. Machicado earned his medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, and received a Master of Public Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship at the University of Colorado. Dr. Machicado joined the faculty of the University of Michigan in 2021. He has authored over 120 peer-reviewed articles, most of them on pancreatitis and pancreatic cysts. Dr. Machicado has contributed to various GI society committees, including the Standards of Practice Committee of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, authoring several guideline documents on endoscopy. His research centers on developing innovative strategies to improve pain management for patients with chronic pancreatitis. This work is supported by a Junior Faculty Development Grant from the American College of Gastroenterology, a Winn Excellence in Clinical Trials Career Development Award, and institutional funding.
