About
Dr. Lauren Oshman is a family physician whose research tackles real-world problems that affect her patients and communities and inform quality improvement and policy change to impact peoples' lives. She has three current areas of investigation: (1) health disparities in substance use disorders in pregnancy, (2) Type 2 diabetes, and (3) obesity. She she sees patients of all ages including pregnant people at Chelsea Family Medicine. She serves as the Service Director for the Family Mother Baby service at Von Voigtlander Hospital. She has expertise in obesity medicine, type 2 diabetes care, addiction medicine, and behavior change and motivational interviewing. She most enjoys developing relationships with patients over time, helping them achieve the best level of health and supporting them and assisting them in navigating the health care system through chronic and acute illness.

Research Overview
Dr. Oshman has advanced fellowship training in quality improvement and serves as the Program Director of the Michigan Collaborative for Type 2 Diabetes, a statewide collaborative to improve diabetes care. She is actively involved in improving population health in metabolic health and obesity. She has additional active research on reducing racial disparities in drug testing for people who use substances in pregnancy and pain management and trauma informed care during gynecological procedures.
