About
Dr. Martz is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan Addiction Center in the Department of Psychiatry. Her research focuses on psychosocial and neural factors underlying substance use risk and resilience among adolescents and young adults. Using multidisciplinary approaches, she works with diverse data sources, including large-scale epidemiological datasets (e.g., Monitoring the Future) and longitudinal neuroimaging studies (e.g., the Michigan Longitudinal Study and the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development [ABCD] Study). Another line of her research uses real-time fMRI neurofeedback to examine developmental differences in volitional control of reward-related brain activity and its links to substance use. Dr. Martz is also committed to translating research into practice and has delivered numerous presentations to clinicians, educators, and community stakeholders at local and national levels to promote real-world impact.
Dr. Martz received her PhD in Developmental Psychology from the University of Michigan. She completed a pre-doctoral fellowship through NIDA’s Substance Abuse Interdisciplinary Training Program and a post-doctoral fellowship through NIAAA's Research Training Program. Prior to completing her PhD, Dr. Martz received a MSW from the University of Chicago and a BS in Psychology with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies from Indiana University.
