Research Overview
I am also academically focused on understanding barriers to clinical trial enrollment and developing tools to address these barriers. While some barriers result from patient attitudes and limitations, many barriers are system- or institution-based. By relying on patient education levels and patient resources, the clinical trial system perpetuates health care disparities. Our efforts to improve enrollment and reduce disparities should optimize the actionable elements of the clinical trial enrollment framework. At the University of Michigan, I am a faculty member of the Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine as well as the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation. This has allowed collaboration with other experts in these fields. I also was selected as a new member of the NRG Health Disparities Committee in 2020.
