Jeffrey Berinstein, MD, MSc

I am an NIH-funded clinician-scientist and Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Michigan. My clinical and research program focuses on improving the care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, particularly those with acute severe ulcerative colitis (ASUC(. My work integrates clinical investigation, pragmatic and adaptive clinical trial design, prediction modeling, and implementation of evidence-based care pathways to improve treatment selection and clinical outcomes.

I am interested in employing novel research methods to optimize care delivery for patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Specifically, my research uses machine learning and prediction modeling, adaptive interventions, and innovative clinical trial designs to develop evidence-based, patient-tailored treatment pathways for patients with acute severe ulcerative colitis. My broader goal is to improve treatment selection, identify patients at risk for poor outcomes earlier in their disease course, and translate evidence into scalable clinical care pathways.
