    Dr. Cynthia Ewell Foster is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. She directs the Suicide Prevention Research in the Community Lab (SPRCL) and Co-Directs the Youth Depression and Suicide Prevention (YDSP) Researh Program. Dr. Ewell Foster leads the Community Engagement Core at the University of Michigan's Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (Child and Family Subspecialty). Dr. Ewell Foster’s research program is focused on youth suicide prevention. Her research and evaluation work seeks to optimize family, community and systems-based supports for youth. She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and has been engaged in program evaluation and research efforts funded by the NIMH, CDC, and SAMHSA as well as local and national foundations. Dr. Ewell Foster is also a clinician and clinical educator; she specializes in suicide risk assessment and care management, brief interventions, and the development of family and community supports for young people at risk for suicide. Dr. Ewell Foster is the director of the SAMHSA-funded Michigan Youth Suicide Prevention Emergency Department Network and is a trainer for Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk.
