Sawsan As-Sanie, MD, MPH

Sawsan As-Sanie, MD, MPH is the Ferguson Endowed Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Co-Chief of Gynecology, and Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and the Endometriosis and Chronic Pelvic Pain Program at the University of Michigan. As an NIH-funded clinician scientist, her research focuses on the neurobiology and mechanism-based treatment of endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain, with an emphasis on personalized approaches to selecting treatment options that improve pain, function, and enhance quality of life. She is Vice President of the AAGL Complex Benign Gynecology Fellowship Board of Directors, Past-President of the International Pelvic Pain Society, elected member of the American Gynecological & Obstetrical Society (AGOS), serves on the World Endometriosis Society Board, and is an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Clinical and translational research in the epidemiology, physiology, and treatment of endometriosis and other pelvic pain disorders. I am particularly interested in elucidating the mechanisms involved in the initiation and maintenance of chronic pelvic pain and post-surgical pain, with a focus on endometriosis-associated pelvic pain.
