About
Dr. Zarina Norton completed medical school at the University of Michigan in 2005, earning distinctions in academics and service. She went on to complete her pediatrics residency and chief residency at The Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital (Northwestern University), where she developed a strong foundation in clinical pediatrics, academic leadership and medical education.
Clinically, Dr. Norton worked as pediatric hospital medicine faculty at Lurie Children's Hospital from 2013-2023, earning appointments as Assistant Professor in both Pediatrics (2019) and Medical Education (2020). She developed clinical expertise in pediatric hospital medicine, medical sedation, pediatric acute outpatient care, and vaccine hesitancy in the inpatient and outpatient setting. She joined the pediatric hospital medicine faculty at the University of Michigan as a Clinical Assistant Professor in 2023.
At the University of Michigan, she serves as a pediatric residency program associate program director, director of the medical school's pediatric residency preparation course, a pediatric faculty advisor and faculty member and coach in the medical school's longitudinal Doctoring program. In her career as an educator, Dr. Norton has held many institutional educational leadership positions, received numerous teaching awards, and gained national recognition through participation in the Educational Scholars Program (APA) and Leadership in Education and Academic Development program (APPD), as well as through collaboration and presentations at national meetings. She was elected to the Association of Pediatric Program Directors' Associate Program Director's Executive Committee in 2023 and will serve as chair of the Executive Committee in 2026-2027.
