    Regina Royan is a physician and public health researcher dedicated to improving emergency and acute care systems, with a focus on stroke, prehospital care, and health equity. She received her medical degree from the University of Michigan and completed her residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago, followed by a research fellowship at Northwestern University. She also holds a Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology from the University of Michigan.

    Her research centers on optimizing systems of care for time-sensitive conditions, including stroke and other neurovascular emergencies. She has conducted studies on emergency medical services (EMS) utilization, interhospital transfers, and disparities in access to advanced therapies, with the goal of informing policies that improve patient outcomes and equity in care delivery.

    Dr. Royan serves in national leadership roles with the American Heart Association (AHA). She is a member of the Hemorrhagic Stroke Scientific Advisory Group as well as the Emergency Neurovascular Care & Telestroke Committee of the AHA Stroke Council, where she contributes to guideline development, education, and system-level initiatives to advance stroke care.

    In addition to her leadership and research, Dr. Royan is an active clinician committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care. She has published in leading peer-reviewed journals and presented at national conferences on stroke systems of care, EMS innovation, and health equity. She is passionate about fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration, and mentoring the next generation of clinicians and researchers working at the intersection of emergency medicine and acute stroke care.
