Dr. Peter Clardy to deliver Woolliscroft Endowed Lecture on October 7

Peter Clardy, M.D., senior staff clinical specialist at Google Health, will deliver the James O. Woolliscroft, M.D. Endowed Lecture in Medical Education from 5-6 p.m. on October 7 in Forum Hall at Palmer Commons.
His presentation is titled “(How) Will AI Change Care and Delivery Education?” The lecture is open to the entire Michigan Medicine community, as well as faculty, staff and learners from U-M's other health sciences schools. About Dr. Clardy
Dr. Clardy is a pulmonary and critical care physician who serves as the lead for the Clinical Enterprise team at Google. In this role, he guides the development, evaluation and platforming of machine learning and generative AI tools designed to help health care and life sciences organizations transform complex, multimodal health data. Dr. Clardy’s team works closely with Google’s DeepMind, Research and Cloud teams to create and scale solutions that empower providers to organize biomedical information, simplify clinical workflows, accelerate scientific discovery and ultimately improve patient outcomes. He has been instrumental in the development and deployment of Google’s first clinician-facing search and summarization tools and is currently platforming Google’s most advanced generative AI models for use across the health sector.
Prior to joining Google, Dr. Clardy built a distinguished career in academic medicine, holding numerous leadership positions at Harvard Medical School and its affiliated teaching hospitals. His roles included director of medical intensive care at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, program director for the Harvard Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship, and associate dean for medical education at Harvard Medical School. An honors graduate of Yale College and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, he is a recognized leader in health professional education and serves as an advisor on the impact of AI in the field to the National Academy of Medicine, the Josiah Macy Foundation and the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Clardy maintained his clinical practice as an intensivist in the medical and surgical ICUs through the COVID-19 pandemic until 2022, bringing a deep, firsthand understanding of frontline clinical challenges to his work in medical technology.
About Dr. Woolliscroft
An internationally recognized leader in medical education, Dr. Woolliscroft stepped down as dean at the end of 2015. He devoted his career to improving physician education and brought an emphasis on education at all levels to the deanship of the Medical School, along with a bold program for international partnerships in education and research. In 2013, he was elected to the prestigious National Academy of Medicine. In 2014, he received the Abraham Flexner Award for Distinguished Service to Medical Education — the highest honor bestowed by the Association of American Medical Colleges, in recognition of outstanding leadership in transforming medical education in the modern age.
Dr. Woolliscroft retired from active faculty status in 2022 and is now dean emeritus of the Medical School and professor emeritus of internal medicine and learning health sciences.
