How much melatonin should I take? Experts weigh in on dosage rules, how much is too much
OTC melatonin is not regulated by the FDA for insomnia, medical conditions or sleep disorders, so it's more easily available to the public, explained Dr. Deirdre Conroy.
That being said, studies have shown that the dose of melatonin labeled on the OTC bottle may not equal the amount you are ingesting. If you are dealing with any sleep disorder or insomnia it is best to speak with your physician to receive a prescription that has been regulated and gone through testing, according to Conroy.
