Dr. Rangarajan grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, but has considered Ann Arbor home over 20 years. She received her B.S. in Political Science (with high honors) and General Biology from the University of Michigan in 2006, and went on to obtain a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in 2008. After a year as a research assistant in the Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine (CBSSM) at the University of Michigan, Dr. Rangarajan went to medical school at the University of Illinois, graduating in 2013. She completed her Internal Medicine residency and Geriatric Medicine fellowship at the combined Med/Ger program at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in 2017. During her fellowship year, Dr. Rangarajan was elected as a housestaff representative to the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) and had the opportunity to actively participate in hospital administration and leadership in a large academic medical center.
Dr. Rangarajan’s primary clinical interest is in Hospital Care at Home, and she was Medical Director of the innovative Michigan Medicine Hospital Care at Home program from July 2021-January 2024, when it transitioned to the Division of Hospital Medicine. She remains closely involved clinically and ensuring the best care is provided to vulnerable elders in their homes. Prior to her transition to HCAH, Dr. Rangarajan was director for the Acute Care for Elders service from 2018-2021 and remains involved in inpatient Geriatric care and transitions of care. She also previously worked in subacute care and Geriatric consults.
Dr. Rangarajan has also been involved in several levels of leadership within the larger University through her work with the Faculty Senate. She had previously served on the Medical Affairs Advisory Committee from 2018-2021 and has been on the Michigan Medicine Advancing Inclusive Leadership Committee since 2021. Most recently, Dr. Rangarajan was elected by the University Senate Assembly as the first ever clinical track member of SACUA, the Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs, and will be serving in this role for 3 years, from May 1, 2024-Apr 30, 2027. In this role, she is one of 9 individuals elected to represent >7000 University Faculty. She is closely involved in issues that affect the larger university, including rights of free speech for students, and is also liaison to both the Faculty Senate Medical Affairs Advisory Committee (MAAC) and Government Relations Advisory Committee (GRAC)
Dr. Rangarajan is a Michigan Wolverines college football fan (often wrangling with her older brother and childhood friends who are Ohio State Buckeyes!), and also enjoys traveling (has been to 20 countries and counting), new technology, hiking (particularly in the beautiful Michigan autumn), and spending time with family and friends in Ann Arbor’s many delicious restaurants.
