  • About

Dr. Rangarajan grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, but has considered Ann Arbor home for over 20 years. She received her B.S. in Political Science (with high honors) and General Biology from the University of Michigan in 2006, and went on to obtain a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in 2008. After a year as a research assistant in the Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine (CBSSM) at the University of Michigan, Dr. Rangarajan went to medical school at the University of Illinois, graduating in 2013. She completed her Internal Medicine residency and Geriatric Medicine fellowship at the combined Med/Ger program at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in 2017. During her fellowship year, Dr. Rangarajan was elected as a housestaff representative to the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) and had the opportunity to actively participate in hospital administration and leadership in a large academic medical center.

Dr. Rangarajan currently sees patients in transitions of care in the high risk period post-hospitalization, both through telehealth and in-home Geriatric assessments, and also does hospitalist work at UM Medical Center. She has been involved in many clinical service lines: she was most recently involved in Hospital Care at Home (where she was Medical Director from July 2021-January 2024, when it transitioned to the Hospital Medicine division) and Acute Care for Elders (of which she was medical director from 2018-2021). She previously worked in subacute care and Geriatric consults, as well as hospitalist work at rural affiliate Chelsea Hospital.

Dr. Rangarajan's primary interest is in health policy. She was selected for the highly prestigious national Health and Aging Policy Fellowship, sponsored by the John A. Hartford Foundation, West Health, and the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation. She was also part of the American Political Science Association (APSA) Congressional Fellowship. From Sep 2025-Sep 2026, after an intensive 1 month Congressional orientation in Washington, DC, Dr. Rangarajan spent 2-3 weeks per month in Washington DC, embedded as a legislative staffer in the U.S. House of Representatives, working with a Democratic legislator on the U.S. House Ways & Means Committee at the intersection of health and economic policy, particularly Medicare policy, while still working half time clinically at UM.

Dr. Rangarajan has also been involved in several levels of leadership within the larger University through her work with the Faculty Senate. She had previously served on the Medical Affairs Advisory Committee from 2018-2021 and the Michigan Medicine Advancing Inclusive Leadership Committee from 2021-2025. Most recently, Dr. Rangarajan was elected by the University Senate Assembly as the first ever clinical track member of SACUA, the Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs from May 1, 2024-Apr 30, 2027, and was elected as Vice Chair of the Faculty Senate from 5/1/2025-4/30/2026. In this role, she is one of 9 individuals elected to represent >7000 University Faculty. She is closely involved in issues that affect broader university affairs. She is currently liaison to the Financial Affairs Advisory Committee (FAAC) and the Committee on Anti-Racism (CAR), and has previously been part of the the Academic Affairs Advisory Committee (AAAC) informing the Provost, and the Medical Affairs Advisory Committee (MAAC) informing the CEO of Michigan Medicine, and the Government Relations Advisory Committee.

Dr. Rangarajan is a Michigan Wolverines college football and sports fan (often wrangling with her older brother and childhood friends who are Ohio State Buckeyes!), and also enjoys traveling (has been to 20 countries and counting), hiking (particularly in the beautiful Michigan autumn), and spending time with family and friends in Ann Arbor’s many delicious restaurants.
